Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published or submitted for consideration by any other journal (or an explanation has been provided in the comments to the editor).
  • The file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect format.
  • Where possible, URLs are provided for references.
  • Work must be written in 12-point Times New Roman font for the main prose and 10 for footnotes.
  • The text meets the stylistic and bibliographic conditions indicated in the Bibliographic Reference Instruction (Chicago Manual of Style- footnote system and bibliography).
  • In the case of sending the text to the peer review section, it is a requirement to follow the instructions to ensure an anonymous evaluation.
  • The length of the articles is between 8,000 and 10,000 words, including bibliography, footnotes and annexes (illustrations, maps, tables, etc). The length of the essays is between 2,500 and 3,000 words.
  • Unpublished articles of research, reflection and review or literature review will have a title and/or subtitle, an abstract of 100 words containing the objectives, content and results of the research and a list of maximum six keywords. The abstract and words will be sent in Spanish and English.
  • In a separate document, the author's full details will be sent: First and last name(s), physical address, telephone, e-mail address, academic degrees, institutional affiliation, current positions, ongoing studies and recent publications. The document shall also indicate the source(s) of funding and the research to which the article is a part.

Author Guidelines

The policies for Ciencia Nueva are based on typology 1 set out by Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología and the Publindex National Bibliographic Index, in order to verify the originality and scientific quality of publications in indexed journals. In accordance with our anti-plagiarism policy, all received articles are subjected to a matching analysis with existing publications on the iThenticate platform, as a prerequisite to peer evaluation. The typology adopted by the journal is as follows:

a. Research Article. Refers to an original type of publication, which is the result of an investigation. It is generally structured in four sections: Introduction, methodology, results and conclusions. When preliminary or partial results are presented, it is considered a short paper. These items will be placed in the sections: 

  • Historical Studies
  • Political Science

b. Article of reflection. Presentation of the results of a completed investigation in an analytical, critical or interpretive way. These articles will be published in the section:

  • Historiography and Political Theory

c. Revision Article. Results of a completed investigation that analyses, systematizes and integrates results from other published or unpublished research, which are directly related to a field of knowledge, taking into account advances and trends in the relevant field of study. To be considered a review, an article must have at least fifty (50) bibliographic references. These articles will be published in the section:

  • Historiography and Political Theory

d. Editorial. Work written by the editor, a member of the Editorial Committee, or a visiting researcher, and deals with orientations in the thematic domain of the journal.

e. Letter to the Editor. A document that evidences a critical, analytical or interpretative position on what has been published in the journal, which is conceived by the Editorial Committee as a significant contribution to the discussion of the topic by the scientific community.

f. Translation. Translations of classic or current texts, or transcripts of historical documents or of particular interest to the thematic domain of the journal. These documents will be published in the section:

  • Annals and Memoirs

g. Dossier. A collection of articles on a topic by different authors. For each issue of the journal the theme varies, and is coordinated by a guest editor who is responsible for ensuring consistency and quality.

h. Review. Provides detailed discussion of the main arguments of a specific publication. The review aims to make a critical assessment of the objectives set out in the work outlined, as well as of the theoretical assumptions, methodology, sources and historiographic impact of the work. Its length should be between 1,500 and 2,000 words.

Presentation

La presentación de la revista es un documento elaborado por el editor que de manera breve presenta el contenido del número. Tiene como objetivo mostrar un panorama general de cada edición. Así, el lector podrá tener una idea de cada artículo y elegir el que sea de su interés.

Editorial

Esta sección tiene la particularidad de ser un trabajo escrito inédito de revisión o reflexión, que por alguna característica especial relacionada con el número, el editor selecciona para ser publicado de manera especial. No cuenta con evaluación por pares académicos pero si con el visto bueno del comité editorial de la revista.

Historical Studies

La presente sección corresponde a los artículos resultados de investigación que se inscriben dentro de una temática histórica. El comité editorial de la revista considera que esta sección tiene un especial interés para la región colombiana del centro occidente, donde busca llenar un vacío existente de espacios académicos de difusión y circulación de trabajos en esta área. Por esta razón también es muy importante para esta sección la publicación de representaciones históricas resultados de procesos de investigación sobre la región. Esto último se debe a que la revista no concibe el problema regional como exclusivo de una nación o un territorio, sino como un fenómeno social amplio de interés para los historiadores, así mismo como un campo de investigación vigente y dinámico. La sección busca servir de escenario de diálogo entre autores de diversos orígenes sobre los estudios regionales. Los artículos de esta sección cuentan con evaluación por pares académicos.

Political Science

Esta sección es un espacio para presentar artículos de reflexión o resultados de investigación sobre temáticas relacionadas con las ciencias políticas. Pretende que los trabajos en esta materia producidos en la región del centro occidente colombiano, dialoguen con escenarios más abiertos propios de las ciencias políticas a nivel internacional. La revista asume la importancia de fomentar la utilización de enfoques de política regional, historia política, estudios culturales de la política y política comparada.  Los artículos de esta sección cuentan con evaluación por pares académicos.

Dossier

El Dossier consiste en la compilación de artículos que presentan resultados investigación para números especiales dedicados a un tema específico. Para el Dossier se realiza un arbitraje doblemente ciego.

Historiography and Political Theory

Ha sido muy escasa la reflexión y teorización que se ha realizado en el Centro Occidente Colombiano sobre la escritura de la historia. En este sentido, esta sección se interesa por entender las formas, los enfoques, los autores, las periodizaciones y los contextos académicos, investigativos e intelectuales acerca de la escritura de la historia. En efecto, la sección, ambiciona ser el escenario para artículos de reflexión o construcción teórica sobre la historia a nivel regional, nacional y global. Los artículos de esta sección cuentan con evaluación por pares académicos.

Reviews

Esta sección se construye con la selección de lecturas críticas sobre libros de Historia, Ciencias Políticas y Ciencias Sociales, recientemente publicados. La extensión de una reseña crítica debe estar entre 820 y 1800 palabras. Estos textos son seleccionados con la evaluación de un par académico y la decisión del comité editorial.

Annals and Memories

Esta sección tiene como objeto principal publicar piezas del patrimonio documental o testimonial de la región del Centro Occidente de Colombia. Con ello se busca contribuir al rescate, conservación y difusión del patrimonio documental de la región. Así mismo se considera que existe un sinnúmero de información desconocida para los investigadores que podrían encontrar en esta sección sus fuentes primarias. Se valorará la importancia de los testimonios, fotografías, memorias orales que tengan un significado para la historia y que puedan ser expuestas en la revista. Además, en esta sección se pretende construir un espacio en el que se expongan las experiencias significativas de historiadores en sus ejercicios investigativos y de docencia. En este sentido, pueden ser entrevistas a profesionales cuya trayectoria sea reconocida y merezca ser difundida. Se considera que esta sección contendría un alto valor pedagógico para los investigadores en formación así como para la comunidad de educadores en las áreas de las ciencias sociales. Los documentos publicados son seleccionados por el comité editorial de la revista.
