The Rise of American Nationalism: Actions and Discourses in the Racialization of the Latino Population

The aim of this study was to analyze the rise of contemporary American nationalism as part of the economic system’s readjustment following the 2008 financial crisis. Government actions have undermined human rights and foundational democratic principles by promoting racist and xenophobic discourses and policies targeting minority populations, particularly the Latino and Mexican communities. This phenomenon has involved the racialization of violence, legitimized through legal provisions and authoritarian measures presented as solutions to social issues. A descriptive-critical methodology is employed, analyzing nationalism through the lens of authoritarian neoliberalism and incorporating statistical data on population and public spending related to border enforcement.
