The Geopolitics of Transnational Organized Crime: An Analysis from Global Studies (1990–2015)

A geopolitical analysis of transnational crime (1990–2015) is proposed, focusing on the identification of criminal networks, their main activities, resource centers, and the management of access to these. A qualitative methodology with a descriptive scope was adopted, based on a systematic press analysis of four digital newspapers in Spanish. Two Russian-origin newspapers were prioritized due to the significance of organized crime in this region following the Soviet implosion. The results highlight the main geopolitical regions of transnational crime and its strategic management worldwide, particularly through extortion and money laundering.
