Focus and scope
Ciencia Nueva, Journal in History and Politics (Ciencia Nueva, Revista en historia y política), is a biannual publication promoted by the Master in History at the Faculty of Education at the Technological University of Pereira (Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira). Its original purpose was to open a dissemination platform for original research in the field of history and political science in the Colombian Coffee Axis, as well as to accompany the processes of academic education and the presentation of results from research work developed from the Master in History and the Master in Political Science, carried out in agreement with the University of Salerno (Italy) between the years 2017 and 2019.
Currently, Ciencia Nueva assumes that quality and high-impact processes require a broader perspective, that does not blur the initial purpose with which it was born, for this reason it has sought to link the views of global history to integrate local processes on transnational scales. In this light, we present New Science, as a local magazine in dialogue with the global that seeks to meet the standards of high scientific quality.
Therefore, Ciencia Nueva receives articles that may be nominated for publication from various disciplinary and territorial sources. For this reason, the journal publishes original articles in Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, French and English that can be final reports or research advances, essays, systemization of knowledge papers on a topic of history and political science, reviews of a particular problem or bibliographic reviews.
Likewise, it seeks to consolidate a space in which primary documents or transcripts of them can be published that by their nature and difficult access, can be considered patrimonial and of relevance to a specific community.
All articles and contributions received by New Science will be submitted for evaluation by expert academic peers in the corresponding area through the "double blind" system to guarantee the publication and quality of the journal.
Mission:
Ciencia Nueva disseminates and promotes historical and political knowledge in an open and dialectical perspective with the world and other disciplines. It also builds a space for analysis, reflection, generation and development of knowledge for the qualitative and quantitative improvement of research, education and academic and scientific production of the social sciences.
Vision:
Ciencia Nueva will be a platform for the exposition and debate of historical science and political science as well as its main problems at all levels of analysis. Its publications will promote research in the different fields of history and politics, in an open relationship with all social sciences. In each issue of the journal, the reader will mainly find articles that are the result of research experiences and activities whose purpose is to cultivate reflection and promote the development and scientific feedback of academic communities.
This knowledge will benefit society through practical application as well as the theoretical enrichment of professionals and students; as well as through the opening of new thematic and methodological possibilities in research, innovations and the recognition of the collective past.

This section has the particularity of being an unpublished written work of review or reflection, which due to some special characteristic related to the issue number, the editor selects to be published in a special way. It is not submitted for academic peer evaluation but it does have the approval of the journal's Editorial Committee.

Historical Studies
This section corresponds to those articles that result from investigation within a historical theme. The journal’s editorial committee considers this section to be of special interest to the central western region of Colombia, where it seeks to fill an existing void of academic spaces for the dissemination and circulation of works in this area. For this reason, it is also very important for this section to publish historical representations that are the result of research processes about the region.
The latter is because the journal does not conceive of the regional problem as exclusive to a nation or territory, but rather as a broad social phenomenon of interest to historians, as well as a field of current and dynamic research. The section seeks to serve as a forum for dialogue between authors of diverse origins on regional studies. The articles in this section are peer-reviewed and evaluated.

Political Sciences
This section is a space to present articles for reflection or research results on topics related to political science. It is intended that the work on this subject produced in the region of the western center of Colombia will dialog with more open scenarios typical of the political sciences at the international level.
The journal assumes the importance of promoting a focus on regional politics approaches, political history, cultural studies of politics and comparative politics. The articles in this section are peer-reviewed and evaluated.

Dossier
The Dossier consists of a compilation of articles that present research results for special issues dedicated to a specific topic. For the Dossier, a double blind arbitration is carried out.

Historiography and Political Theory
There has been very little reflection and theorizing carried out in the western central region of Colombia on the writing of history. In this sense, this section is interested in understanding the forms, approaches, authors, periodizations and academic, investigative and intellectual contexts about the writing of history.
This section aspires to create a stage for articles of reflection or theoretical construction on history at a regional, national and global level. The articles in this section are peer-reviewed and evaluated.
Peer reviewed |
Reviews
This section consists of a selection of critical readings on recently published History, Political Science and Social Science books. The length of a critical review should be between 820 and 1800 words. These texts are selected with the evaluation of an academic peer and the decision of the Editorial Committee.
Peer reviewed* |
*Reviews will be evaluated by only one academic peer, under the double-blind system, after preliminary revision by Editorial Committee
Annals and Memories
The main purpose of this section is to publish pieces of documentary or testimonial heritage of a specific community. The aim is to contribute to the recovery, conservation and dissemination of the documentary heritage of the regions and localities that do not have the sufficient capacity to otherwise guarantee this type of heritage. Likewise, it is considered that there are countless as yet unknown information sources for researchers who could find their primary sources in this section. The importance of testimonies, photographs, oral memories that have a meaning for history and that can be exhibited in the journal will be valued.
In addition, this section aims to build a space in which the significant experiences of historians in their research and teaching exercises are highlighted. Interviews with professionals whose career trajectory is recognized and deserves to be disseminated could be of interest in this section. This section is considered to have a high pedagogical value for researchers in training as well as for the community of educators in the areas of the social sciences. The published documents are selected by the Editorial Committee of the journal.

Peer Evaluation Process
Selection Process:
The originals will be submitted to an editorial process that will be developed in several phases. First, the articles received will be subject to a preliminary evaluation by the members of the Editorial Committee, the Director and / or Editor, who will determine the relevance to the publication and ensure that the originality criterion is met. Once it is established that the article meets the thematic requirements, in addition to the formal requirements indicated in the instructions, it will be sent to two external academic peer evaluators, to the Editorial Committee and to the publishing institution, who will determine anonymously: a) publish without changes, b ) publish once minor corrections have been made, c) publish after a thorough review has been made, or d) reject.
In the event of a discrepancy between the two results, the text shall be sent to a third arbitrator, the decision of which shall define its publication. The results of the academic opinion process will be unappealable in all cases.
