This volume brings together contributions by twenty-four Ibero-Americanists who propose transatlantic dialogues between Spain and Portugal with Latin America, covering the last two decades of the eighteenth century and the first two decades of the nineteenth century. This temporal precision can be significant for historians, because the authors of the book elaborate a revision of the concept of modernity in the light of international relations and the changes in the representations of an order of nations arising from colonial projects, such as the Portuguese and Spanish kingdoms settled in the New World.
