Guidelines for the nomination of monographic issues (dossier)

A dossier or monographic issue in an academic journal is a thematic section that provides an in-depth look at a specific topic and encourages the exchange of ideas and collaboration among experts in the field. For Ciencia Nueva (New Science) the Dossier section corresponds to a set of articles that are grouped from a specific approach. It includes original research articles, reflections or reviews, but you can also find reviews or other content related to the central theme. The objective is to provide the broadest, most complete and in-depth vision of the topic, providing the opportunity to explore a field of social knowledge, debate ideas, postulate concepts and present results.

 

To publish a dossier or monographic issue in Ciencia Nueva the following phases must be completed:

          1. Application of the proposal before the Editorial Team

The proposal can be submitted by one or up to three researchers in the field of social sciences who have current institutional affiliation and whose level of academic training is master's or doctoral, and the application must adhere to the following instructions:

  • Write a text of between 450 and 500 words in which the proposed topic is presented (objective, background, context, etc.) and the associated lines in which they expect to receive contributions.
  • Submit a list of possible authors of at least six people, which must include current institutional affiliation and email.
  • The editorial team of the journal Ciencia Nueva (New Science) will evaluate the proposal based on the criteria of relevance, quality, relevance and From this, it will make the decision to approve, reject or request adjustments from the proponents.           2. Dissemination of the call for contributions

  • The Editorial Team will propose a graphic piece with the bases of the call for approval of the invited editors. This will be the official information of the call and will be disseminated in the media of the magazine.
  • To ensure the success of the call for the dossier, invited editors are expected to commit the authors proposed for submission of contributions.
  • Invited editors will also commit to the dissemination of the call among the community of experts. It is important that it circulates both in the Spanish- speaking academic community and in other countries.           3. Evaluation of contributions

  • The Editorial Team is responsible for the preliminary review of each of the contributions received, in this process strict compliance with the guidelines for authors declared by Ciencia Nueva (New Science) is verified.
  • The Editorial Team sends the invited editors a list of contributions that pass the preliminary review process. The invited editors verify that each of the texts meets the guidelines and expectations of the call and define which of them advance to the stage of academic peer evaluation1.
  • Guest editors should propose at least three peer evaluators for each article. These should be expert researchers in the respective topics, have active institutional affiliation, doctoral degree in the area or master's degree with scientific publications that prove their suitability for the review. If there are articles in other languages, evaluators should be aware of the language in which the text they are going to review is written.
  • The Editorial Team will be in charge of contacting the suggested evaluators to start the review process of each The respective opinion will be informed in a timely manner to the invited editors.
  • Throughout this phase, the permanent support of the invited editors will be necessary to facilitate communication with peer reviewers and authors, especially at times when adjustments or improvements to their texts are required, or when the review deadlines accepted by the assigned peer reviewers are exceeded.

          4. Publication of the dossier

  • As a result of the academic peer review process, managed by the Nueva Ciencia (New Science) Editorial Team, the final list of articles approved for publication will be obtained. With this information, the invited editors must make an introductory text to the theme of the dossier, in which the articles that compose it are also presented. This document must be between 4,000 and 5,000 words, include bibliography and follow the guidelines for authors declared by the journal.
  • All articles approved for inclusion in the dossier, as well as the introductory text, will be subject to style correction and diagramming in accordance with the current publication format of the Invited editors will have the opportunity to do a final check of the galleradas prior to online publication.

          5. Dissemination

  • After online publication, the journal carries out several actions for the dissemination of its issues.
