Magazine editorial process

The order of authorship should be a joint decision of all co-authors. There are three types of authorship considered unacceptable:

Ghost Authors: These are individuals who have made a significant contribution to the research and writing of a scientific article but are not recognized as authors on the official list. This practice is often considered unethical because it conceals the true participation of individuals in the creation of the work.

Guest Authors: These are individuals who have not made any identifiable contribution to the research work or the article but whose names are included to increase the chances of publication, as the "guest" has a recognized reputation in the field, and their name might lend more credibility to the article or help it be accepted by more prestigious journals.

Honorary Authors: These are individuals in high positions whose names are included as a gesture of appreciation for their administrative support.

Types of Accepted Articles (COLCIENCIAS Classification):

  • Scientific and Technological Research Article: A document that presents, in detail, the original results of completed research projects. The structure typically includes four main sections: introduction, methodology, results, and conclusions.
  • Reflection Article: A document that presents the results of completed research from an analytical, interpretative, or critical perspective of the author on a specific topic, using original sources.
  • Review Article: A document resulting from completed research where the results of published or unpublished research on a field in science or technology are analyzed, systematized, and integrated to report on advances and development trends. It is characterized by a thorough bibliographic review of at least 50 references.

Priority will be given to Type 1 articles as they have the highest impact in the Publindex database of Colciencias. Review articles are accepted subject to strict adherence to requirements for thematic relevance, review methodology, and citation.

Article Format:

Submitted articles must be presented in Word 2003 or higher format, adhering to the requirements specified by IEEE 2017 (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). The Scientia et Technica journal has made minimal adaptations, including the addition of the abstract and keywords in Spanish. The modified format can be downloaded from the following address, and the general instructions from the original IEEE source can be found at: IEEE Article Templates: https://ieeeauthorcenter.ieee.org/create-your-ieee-article/use-authoring-tools-and-ieee-article-templates/ieee-article-templates/templates-for-transactions/.

Writing

Articles should be written clearly and concisely to be accessible to an international audience. It is important to avoid colloquial terms and expressions that may not be widely understood. Short paragraphs and sentences should be used to facilitate reading. Note that all acronyms and abbreviations should be clearly explained when they first appear in the text.

References

Bibliographic references must adhere to IEEE standards. Additionally, each reference should include the DOI of the cited article at the end, if available. It is recommended to use Mendeley (https://www.mendeley.com/) for support in managing bibliographic references (Bibtex).

  • Example with available DOI: [1] E. V. Stanev and R. Kandilarov, "Sediment dynamics in the Black Sea: Numerical modelling and remote sensing observations," Ocean Dynam., vol. 62, pp. 533-553, Apr. 2012. doi:10.1007/s10236-012-0520-1
  • Example without available DOI: [1] E. V. Stanev and R. Kandilarov, "Sediment dynamics in the Black Sea: Numerical modelling and remote sensing observations," Ocean Dynam., vol. 62, pp. 533-553, Apr. 2012.

Pre-print version

When you have finished the article, re-read your work carefully the next day. This helps avoid fatigue that can sometimes prevent you from spotting obvious errors. Once this stage is complete, send the document to your colleagues and co-authors for objective feedback. Once all co-authors are satisfied and agree that the content is appropriate, perform a final thorough review of spelling and grammar before submission. If necessary, consult an expert, especially if the article is in English and it is not your first language.

Article Submission

Submissions must be made exclusively through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform during the open call periods. Alternative submission channels will be explicitly authorized by the Editorial Committee on a case-by-case basis and are considered exceptional.
