In this work, the effect of tempering temperature on the microstructural, crystallographic and wear properties of AISI / SAE 1045 steel is analyzed. The samples were obtained by machining a 5/8 '' rod of AISI / SAE 1045 commercial steel, until obtaining cylindrical specimens with a diameter of 40 mm and 5 mm of thickness. These samples were subjected to thermal treatments of normalization, quenching and tempering, carried out at temperatures of 460 ° C, 507 ° C, 554 ° C and 600 ° C, in order to cover the range of tempering temperatures recommended by literature and steel manufacturers, for this material. In the adhesive wear test, a pin-on-disk tribometer was used to obtain the wear rate of the samples subjected to the different tempering conditions. The wear tracks were analyzed by means of scanning electron microscopy. The microstructure obtained in each heat treatment was analyzed by metallography studies. Likewise, hardness measurements were made at the different tempering conditions.
