Inorganic blue pigments with spinel structure CoAl1.95Cr0.05O4 and Zn0,8Co0,2Al0O4 were synthesized by solution combustion synthesis (SCS) using glycine as a fuel. The powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), which showed the formation of the spinel structures. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) was also used, and the images of microstructure showed the formation of powders with porosity and with agglomeration of the particles. The diffuse reflectance VIS spectroscopy in the range 380 nm to 750 nm showed absorption bands associated with the absorption of Co2+ in tetrahedral coordination. We conclude that the solution combustion method allows obtaining inorganic pigments which can be used to make architectural paints.
