Abstract

Mining is established as one of the development activities in Colombia, due to the mineral wealth present in the national territory. However, this activity has caused environmental impacts on the biotic, abiotic and socioeconomic components of high mountain and paramo ecosystems. Therefore, this article presents a diagnosis of the mining activity with examples focused on the strategic ecosystem of the paramo, which was carried out from the bibliographic review of studies that describe and analyze the problem of environmental pollution associated with the development of mining company in Colombia. The search included posts on the negative impacts of mining on the paramo ecosystem. As a result of the review, social, water and atmospheric effects caused by mining were identified. This work contributes to the recognition of the paramo as a strategic ecosystem and provides an alternative solution for its environmental recovery focused on ecological restoration.
