Abstract

The shift toward increasingly digital and human-centered industrial environments has led engineering faculties to re-examine their professional training models. This paper analyzes previous studies in three key areas: the evolution of Industries 4.0 and 5.0, emerging engineering competencies, and the asymmetries between university curricula and the productive sector's demands in Colombia. The reviewed studies show that the curricular incorporation of digital competencies is partial and fragmented, highlighting the lack of pedagogical frameworks that articulate the technical, technological, and transversal dimensions required for the transition from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0. Furthermore, active learning methodologies and direct collaboration between academia and industry can help reduce this gap. The study argues that a training strategy relevant to the Colombian context should integrate curricular assessments, internationally recognized competency frameworks, active pedagogies, and expert validation.
