Una vision a la terapia antimalarica tradicional y actual desde el descubrimiento hasta su posible desarrollo

Abstract

La malaria es una de las enfermedades para la cual, no existe hoy día el fármaco óptimo. La rápida propagación de la resistencia hacia los fármacos corrientes, motiva el estudio por la búsqueda de nuevas moléculas activas. La investigación etnobotánica se constituye en gran ayuda para encontrar alternativas más eficaces. Los remedios tradicionales siempre han sido una fuente de importantes agentes antimaláricos y continúan suministrando tratamientos efectivos, no solo cuando los farmacéuticos no están disponibles sino también cuando la enfermedad es altamente resistente a los medicamentos comúnmente prescritos. Con el ánimo de mostrar algunas bases para el desarrollo de nuevos antimaláricos, presento una recopilación comparativa de estudios recientes en compuestos naturales con actividad antiplasmodio, y terapias convencionales. Además un acercamiento al desarrollo de nuevos agentes antimaláricos.
