Abstract

El presente articulo explora la relación entre los puntajes de ICFES 1 en cada una de las áreas del conocimiento con el rendimiento en álgebra lineal por parte de los estudiantes de ingenierías de la Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira, UTP, a través de la técnica estadística multivariada conocida como análisis discriminante. Los datos históricos que sirven como base del análisis han sido proporcionados por la Oficina de Planeación de la UTP. Para el análisis de los datos se utilizó el software estadístico SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences, versión 11.5) El análisis estadístico multivariado desarrollado en éste artículo permite concluir que los puntajes obtenidos en las pruebas del ICFES, como único criterio de ingreso a la UTP, dejan serios cuestionamientos sobre su capacidad de prever el desempeño futuro del estudiante en los programas de ingeniería.
