Las sociedades son dinámicas en muchos campos, como son en demografía, evolución social y desarrollo. En cuanto al crecimiento, la forma de limitarlo y su impacto en el medio ambiente se tienen diversos métodos. Los análisis prospectivos, que permitan la toma de decisiones son herramientas que han servido y siguen sirviendo a las autoridades ambientales, para lograr de una manera u otra mitigar los impactos de dicho crecimiento, ya sea desde un punto de vista académico, que implique una concientización, hasta un punto de vista normativo, que involucre la creación de normas y leyes que sancionen los comportamientos mal intencionados.
