Abstract

Desde la invención de la brújula hace algo más de 4500 años, esta ha despertado un halo mágico que deslumbra la humanidad por su naturaleza casi mágica e inspiradora. El campo magnético terrestre, generador del movimiento de la aguja de la brújula, tiene cada vez más un lugar importante de la vida humana y la del mundo moderno. Desde hace solo varios siglos, el hombre se ha preocupado de su monitoreo y las construcción de mapas que permitan ver su variación en lugar y tiempo. Colombia, no estando ajena a esta necesidad, posee una historia que enlaza científicos europeos con expediciones mundiales en busca de la construcción del mapa geomagnético. Este trabajo forma parte de la investigación iniciada por el grupo DICOPED de la  Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira en la construcción del sistema magnetométrico para la medición del campo magnético terrestre COLMAGNET.
